Syracuse Radiant Heating Service
Warm Floors for Syracuse Winters
Radiant heating warms the floor itself, so the tile under your feet at 6 a.m. stops being the coldest surface in the room. We plan, install, and repair hydronic (water-based) and electric radiant systems, and every project starts with an in-person look at your floors.
Holbrook Heating & Air Conditioning installs and services the whole chain: heating equipment, water heaters, and smart thermostats. Because a cold zone traces back to the floor, the heat source, or the controls, one company answering for all three saves you from guessing which trade owns the problem.
We hold Lennox Premier Dealer™, Rheem Pro Partner, and GE Authorized HVAC PRO standing, which means the manufacturers have reviewed our training and installation standards for the equipment we put beneath your floors.

Electric Mats or Hydronic Tubing: Which Fits Your Rooms?
We match the radiant type to your rooms, the floor beneath them, and the heat source you already own. The two types suit different amounts of floor.
We weigh these differences when choosing a radiant type:
- Electric cable or mat – Resistance wire (wire which warms as electricity passes through) sits under the floor covering, which suits a single bathroom, kitchen floor, or entry. We check the floor build-up before proposing one.
- Hydronic tubing – Heated water circulates through tubing in or under the floor, and one heat source feeds several zones (sections with their own thermostat). We size the heat source against the rooms on the system.
- Heat source – A hydronic floor needs a boiler or another compatible source, so we look at what you own first and tell you when your current equipment already suffices.
Because different areas need different amounts of heat, a bathroom and a whole first floor call for different systems.

How Your Flooring Changes the Way Radiant Heat Feels
Ceramic tile is the most common radiant covering because it passes heat upward efficiently and holds warmth after the system cycles off. Hardwood and carpet insulate more than tile, so each carries a temperature limit set by its manufacturer. We read your flooring maker’s guidance before setting any heat output.
A radiant floor warms a room more slowly than forced air, because the floor has to warm first. National Weather Service records put the average New Year’s Day low at Syracuse Hancock International Airport at 18.8°F, which means we build your schedule so the floor starts warming before you wake.

Keeping Your Home Livable While Floors Come Up
Radiant work sometimes means lifting flooring or opening access from the basement, so how a crew treats your house matters as much as the heat output. Our technicians are fully vetted; they protect the work area from start to finish and leave your home in the condition they found it.
Our office follows up with texts and photos after a visit. Customers name the office staff in their reviews as often as they do the technicians, and we treat the phone call and follow-up as part of the job.
Radiant Projects in Syracuse Preservation Districts
The Syracuse Landmark Preservation Board oversees the city’s locally designated Preservation Districts, and the Common Council holds final designation authority. National Register-listed historic districts are a separate designation. For a radiant project in a historic property, we consider the building’s existing construction and planned installation area when defining the work.
When One Zone Stays Cold While the Others Warm
Cold strips of flooring, a room with weak heat since installation, or an unresponsive thermostat each point to a fault somewhere between the heat source and the floor.
We start with these checks when a radiant floor underperforms:
- Cold sections in a warm floor – Part of a zone sometimes loses water flow or electrical supply. We test the equipment feeding the cold area first, and repair work follows the test results.
- Unresponsive controls – A thermostat fault and a heat source fault feel identical from the couch. We service smart thermostats and heating equipment, so our technician tests each end instead of sending you to a second company.
- A zone with weak heat from day one – Weak heat from the start points to design. We review the floor covering, zone layout, and heat output together, including work another company installed.
If a zone fails overnight, our phone line is staffed through every night and weekend.
Frequently Asked Questions About Radiant Heating
Radiant heating raises different questions than ducts or radiators do, especially about summer, existing equipment, and what to prepare. Ask us anything that’s not on this list when you reach out.
Will a Radiant Floor Cool My House in Summer?
No. Radiant floor heating only warms the floor. Summer cooling comes from a separate system, such as central air conditioning or a ductless mini-split, and we install and service each.
Do I Keep My Existing Heating Equipment?
Depending on the project, radiant floors run alongside your current heat or take over part of the heating load. We review your equipment during the visit and tell you which rooms your current system already supports.
What Should I Have Ready Before You Visit?
Know which rooms feel coldest, what covers each floor, and whether the basement ceiling is open or finished. Photos of the floors and of your current heating equipment help our team plan the visit.
Does Each Room Get Its Own Temperature Setting?
Radiant floors run in zones (sections with their own thermostat), so a bathroom zone and a living room zone hold different settings. We group rooms into zones during planning, based on how you use each space.
